news release
"Biologica Obscura" to be presented at Gallery 2 @ NSU
Natchitoches and Leesville - "After 50 years of looking at the 'real' world, I find
that I'm much more interested in the worlds we can't see."
David Labby will present his visions of those unseen worlds in two exhibitions. The
exhibitions will include sculptural works he calls "walk-in paintings" and his more
traditional two-dimensional "flatland" work.
"Microscopic forms of life and the universe they inhabit fascinate me. The world
that is beyond the scale of our human eyes is just as real, just as beautiful as
the world we wake up to every morning. The design and forms in that unseen world
feel perfect. It's a living, energetic environment that exists to provide a form
for whatever function is needed ..."elegant simplicity."
David's visions of that elegant simplicity will be presented at both NSU's
Gallery 2 and in Leesville's Gallery One Ellleven.

"After over 50 years of looking at the 'real' world, I find that I'm much more interested
in the worlds we can't see.
Microscopic forms of life and the universe they inhabit fascinate me. The world that is
beyond the scale of our human eyes is just as real, just as beautiful as the world we
wake up to every morning. The design and forms in that unseen world feel perfect to me. It's
a living, energetic environment that exists to provide a form for whatever function is
needed ...elegant simplicity.
I also enjoy exploring the hidden universe within my mind. Using surrealist automatist
techniques and improvisational techniques, I can sometimes unlock the doors
to that inner universe.
Without trying to analyze things too much, it also has to be
fun - plain and simple. If it's not fun, if it doesn't somehow feel 'right', feel
'natural' - why put any energy into it at all?"
