Artist statement:
I've thought about joining the gallery after going to several of the gallery
functions. The gallery has such a diverse group of people with so many
different mediums. My mother took up painting in later life and watching
her grow and do so well it made me want to try. She had to learn to sketch
but did so good after overcoming that obstacle. She went on to sell several
and placed in several art shows in Union Parish. I only took about 10
lessons. I could always sketch and it didn't take long to learn enough
about mixing colors and what supplies I needed. I started with lessons in
1980 and painted about 3 years. The highlight in my art was the selling of
a painting. I couldn't believe someone wanted to buy one. My 2 children
became involved in a lot of activities and I put painting aside. After a
few years the paint had all dried up and I just never bought any more and
just kind of forgot about it. I have 5 grandchildren now ages 1-9 years old
and they became my inspiration, after introducing them to a lot of arts and
crafts that they enjoyed so much. I soon became eager to buy more supplies
to see if I could still paint and I've painted so much for the last 2 years.
My goal, with the gallery, is to try new mediums that I've seen others do so
well. I look forward to a great time with everyone.
